Editor's note: Readers will probably know that [from those in the above list] three Sayas of Saya Allen Htay, Leader, Bay Area Alumni Group, will be coming to the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. They are Sayagyi Dr. Aung Gyi, Sayagyi U Min Wun and Sayagyi U Num Kock. Three then-students, Saya Allen Htay, Saya Dr. San Hla Aung and Mr. Oscar Shirazee, are confirmed attendees to the event.

Sayas Dr. Aung Gyi and Dr. San Hla Aung will be staying with U Myat Htoo (Civil 68) in Danville, CA. Saya U Num Kock will be staying with Saya U Myint Lwin (a) U Num Poon (Civil 61) in San Francisco, CA. Saya Allen Htay is a resident of Mountain View, CA. Saya U Min Wun will be staying with Saya U Myo Myint Sein and the alumni from Southern California. Mr. Oscar, a friend of Maurice's extended family, will probably be staying in Daly City. The schedules are subject to change.

From the class of 58, Saya U Htin Paw (Electrical) and Saya U Ba Nyunt (Electrical) will also be attending.

Saya Allen Htay is the class representative of 58 for RIT Alumni International. He has contributed an excellent article "Brother, can you spare $500 ... and more?"

Grapevine says that

  • Ko Zaw Min Nawaday (EP 70) has relocated to Hayward, CA
  • Ko Aung Myint Oo (EC 84) has relocated to Fremont, CA
  • two [or more] engineers have relocated to Myanmar

Saya Dr. San Tint (Electrical) has received US Visa. He will leave for US on 25 October. Saya will probably visit New York for a few days after the Reunion.

                Not all can make it to the Reunion

I thank you very much for inviting me to the re-union at San Francisco. I sincerely wish I could attend the re-union. I will not be able to take long leave for the next 12 months or so as I am in-charge of a construction project, whose schedule is very tight.

Saya Dr. Tin Hlaing (Mech 63) wrote to Maurice Chee (a) Hla Myint Thein:

Thank very much you for your invitation to visit you and to attend the Reunion of Ex.RIT. I will not be able to come.

Please convey my regards and greetings to my Sayas and friends who know me before.

With pure goals, many people were/are working days and nights sacrificing their family/leisure times for the purpose of Once-In-a-Lifetime SPZP and RIT Reunion. Nobody works for self-publicity. Although I am not in your meetings and committees, I know it is a formidable task. A lot of invaluable time, efforts, expertise, money, away from the family members, physical/mental exhaustion, a lot of midnight phone calls, etc. Even though, no cheers - no problem. But should not criticize, especially on these days. Should have some understanding on your enormous efforts spent for the forthcoming SPZP and Reunion.

You all have been working so hard for so long, burning the candle from both ends, putting together this unprecedented event, full of good intentions, anticipation, hopefulness and joy.

                Quick roll call
===============================================================

Alums from the 50's are mostly Sayas or friends of our Sayas. We have presented the bios of several Sayas. Some are still polishing their manuscripts.

Alums from the 60's include our Sayas (e.g. Saya Dr. San Tint, Saya U Sein Maung, ...), colleagues of my brother and cousins, and some classmates. My brother is Mech 63. Two of my cousins are Arch 60 and EC 66. My brother-in-law is EC 67. My sister worked for RIT Chemistry Department in the late '60s.

I am EC 69. In a picture of the EE Association ]see "Photo Gallery"], you can see me standing in the last row [as a class rep -- training to succeed as Joint Secretary and Secretary]. You can also see our revered Sayagyis [see "GBNF"], Saya U Soe Paing [see "Background"], several other Sayas, Ko Aung Khin (EP 68), Ko Soe Tha (EC 67), Ko Ye Win (EC 69), ... Some of those junior to me include Ko Tin Than and Ma Pwint Than.

From my class, Tom Liu (a) Ko Toung (EC 69), John Lee (a) Ko Tin Myint (Mech 69) and his spouse Mabel Lee (Tex 69), Charlie Tan (Mech 69), Daniel Tint Lwin (Mech 69), ..., are coming. Danny acted as Treasurer representative for Singapore. He will also be the coordinator for Entertainment.

Ivan Lee (a) Ko Khin Maung Oo (Mech 69), our golden sponsor, will not be able to come, but he has donated to the SPZP and General Fund of RIT Alumni International.

Saya K C Chiu (a) U Tin Aung (ChE 63), Saya U Nyo Win (Mech 65), Saya George Chan (a) U Maung Maung (ChE 67) and Saya U Myat Htoo (Civil 69). A sizable number of the Organizing Committee members are from the '60s. Saya KC, Saya George and their colleagues invited Sayagyi U Khin Aung Kyi to the Reunion. A lot of ChE's from the '60s will be present at the Reunion.

The EE 60 group photo given by U Moon Lee [via Saya KC] will be scanned and posted on the web. It includes Saya K C's brother.

Sayas who graduated in 61 include Dr. Aung Soe, U Myint Lwin (a) H. Num Poon, Dr. Julie Han, ...

David Ko (a) Ko Tin Myint (Mech 68) is another golden sponsor.

I have covered the class of 62 in a previous newsletter. Saya Dr. Koung Nyunt (Arch 67) wrote two articles: one on the formation of the RIT Photography Club, another on "lost" songs and forgotten Sayas. Ko Tin Htoon wrote about the class of Arch 60. Hope that more alums will write about their classes, or as Ivan Lee suggested "visions for the future".

For a complete list of who's coming, see the updated Reunion Pages.

===============================================================
That's all for now.

With metta,
Hla Min
