Dear Sayas and Colleagues,

With much regret I receive an e-mail from Saya Chwan Peng Kyan that he would not be able to attend the Re-Union and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe.

I recently got a phone call from Saya Dr. Yan Naing Lwin, Professor and Head, Physics Dept., WIU, Macomb, Illinois. Saya's father, U Ba Lwin, was the Principal of Myoma National High School in Yangon, Myanmar.

Saya said that it's 99% sure that he will attend the First Ever RIT Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe to meet old friends and colleagues [and to meet people like me].

Saya has helped numerous students [including those that graduated from RIT] get assistantship to study at his department, or to get enrolled in other departments such as Computer Science. Some of the WIU alumni, who are also RIT alumni, include

  • Jack Boporai (a) Jagjit (EC 73)
  • Meenu Singh (ChE 72)
  • Than Tun Oo (a) Gavin (Arch 80)
  • ...

Thanks Saya YNL. See you at the Reunion.

Since somebody brought up the matter of pre RIT Deans, I want to add another one. If my memory serve me right, during my year in the "Late Kone", the Dean was a Chemistry professor(I forgot his name). I hope somebody can come up with his name.

Editor's note: Editor's note: Professors of Chemistry include Saya U Tha Hto, Saya U Aung Khin, ...

Some confirmed attendees:

  • Edward/Eddie Teoh (Houston)
  • Khin Teoh aka Khin Thein Yi (Houston) {Congratulations for moving to a new house and for deciding to join the Reunion}
  • Jim Lim & Spouse
  • Khin Mya Yee aka Sarah Yee

The organizing committee is having [probably] the second last meeting before the big event. The last meeting will take place two weeks from now.

Although I chaired the "Invitation Subcommittee", virtually all the EC members sent out personal invitations to their colleagues and friends.

I was reminded of a legendary "Pa Dein Sayagyi" [Jewelry expert]. When he was asked his expertise on Diamonds, he called in Saya Sein. When asked for his opinion on Emeralds, he called in Saya Mya. It goes on for the other jewelry as well. Finally, the inquirer said, "What is your expertise?"

The "Pa Dein Sagyi" replied, "I prepare pots of tea for my team of experts".

That's all for now.
With metta,
Hla Min
