 Countdown to the Reunion - 20 (September 29, 2000)

Dear Sayas and Colleagues,

The following is some feedback that I received.

====================
Ko Taing Ok (Ch 69)
====================

According to Ko Myo Khin (Civil 70), Ko Taing Ok is visiting researcher at the faculty of agriculture, Kagoshima University, Japan.

=====================
Architecture Group
=====================

After the publication of Dr. Koung Nyunt's article/news, Ko Thet Win requested that [if possible] he would like to be seated at the same table with Dr. Koung.

Dr. Koung Nyunt added:

As requested, it is better to sit not only with Ko Thet Win, but also with our colleagues of architecture and Saya U Myo Myint Sein together.

Did you know Ko Thet Win is a famous drummer in all of our fresher welcome party of Architecture?

Also if you have difficulties to invite Mar Mar Aye, how about May Sweet?

According to Grapevine, Ko Phillip Chu (Arch) set up the first "True Burmese" restaurant in the Bay Area.

I believe Ko Than Tun Oo (Arch), RUBC Gold, studied some time back at WIU (Macomb).

Ko Htin Myaing (Arch) went to East Timor on a UN assignment.

A lot of Arch students were good at music. U Bo Gyi (Arch) played classical and pop music. Ko Aung Khin (Arch) kept a guitar in his studio, as did a lot of others.

One more person feels guilty

I am so proud of you and Ko Khin Maung Zaw for putting in all the efforts for the web site and the Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. I even feel guilty for not being a part of it. Although I have never met the two of you, I will be thinking about you all on that date. Traveling on the job for more than 50% of my 22 years here in the states, I would say that most of my time has been wasted at the airport.

Under the class representatives I was listed as a 1970 graduate instead of a 1971 graduate.

I am sure everything will go well with the Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. However, I would still like to wish you all the best of luck.

Editor's note: Before the days of the ex-rit web, I acted as the Post Master. Saya U Myo Win asked me to forward an e-mail to Michael to confirm his hunch that Michael's spouse is the sister of Saya's brother-in-law [the husband of Saya's sister]. What a small world! Webmaster's note: I do not feel comfortable to take credit on the staging of the first ever RIT Grand Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. Credit should go to all members of the Steering, Executive/Working, Organizing Committees and Sub-Committees. Without their voluntary efforts and personal sacrifice in terms of time and money, there will be no Reunion at all. My sincere and heart-felt gratitude ti them for making this event possible.

U Nyo Win went back yesterday. I was supposed to meet him on Thursday night but, unfortuately, he was late coming back from Malaysia and by the time he called me was about 11.00pm and I couldn't see him any more.

I would like to inform you the I have collected: US$ 100 from Dicky Tan; US$ 100 from Ko Sein Myint; US$ 57 from Ko Aung Myint and US$ 100 from me for donation towards general use.

Ko Hla Kyi and his gang are also collecting money for the Saya Pu Zaw Pwe Fund.

Before U Nyo Win left he requested me to help out in the entertainment. I would like to know what audio/video equipment the hotel is providing so that I can come better prepared. Is the time slot 8.00 to 8.30pm agreeable to the organising committee?

I'll be arriving SF on 25 Oct.

Editor's note: Danny plays the lead, rhythm and bass guitars well. May be he can play other instruments as well. He sang songs at the '69 Grads Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe held in Myanmar last year. Sad to say, Ko Kyaw Than (Met 69), one of the organizers of that Reunion passed away.

From Thailand and Myanmar
==========================

Ko Ye Myint (U Ba Toke's son) and spouse will be arriving in the Bay Area on 20th October. They will be staying at Ko Zaw Min Nawaday's new house.

According to Grapevine, Ko Zaw Min has to spend four nights [in his car] at the site [then an empty lot] of his new house -- as a sign of commitment to buy the house.

Saya U Ba Toke has received his passport. If all goes well, he wants to begin his trip on [or around] 20th October.

That's all for now.
With metta,
Hla Min
