Dear Sayas and Colleagues,
Here's some more news/update. =============== From Singapore ===============
Daniel Tint Lwin (Mech 69), Associate Professor, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), wrote, in two separate e-mails: --------------- First e-mail ---------------
Contacted [Saya] U Nyo Win [co-chair, Steering Committee, RIT Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. Last night we went out for dinner together with Sein Myint (EP 69), Dickie (Mech 69) and Aung Myint (Mech 69). We'll be meeting again this evening at the Polytechnics Club House with [Saya] U Tu Myint (Mech). ------------------- Second e-mail -------------------
We had a nice dinner with U Nyo Win, hosted by U Tu Myint and U Aung Myint at the Singapore Polytechnics Staff Centre. In addition to Sein Myint & Dickie, four other younger RIT grads also joined.
U Nyo Win has given me a task to look into the entertainment part. I'll be glad and honoured to do so with your help. Firstly, may I know what audio equipment the hotel is providing?
There will be a sizable contingent attending the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. For a complete up to date list, see the Reunion Pages.
Among the Sayas attending will be Saya U Min Wun (Civil), Saya U Myo Myint Sein (Arch), Saya U Tin Htut (Mech), Saya U Ko Gyi (a) Johnny King (Mech), Saya L. Tin Tun (a) Dr. Christopher Lee (Elec), Saya U Kyaw Hlaing (Burmese), ...
Saya U Min Wun was one of the first supporters of the ex-rit web site. He wrote an article on the "Kyaik hti yo project" to complement the slides and article by Dr. Koung Nyunt (Arch 67), area rep for New Zealand. Saya is an expert on Astronomy [both Western and Eastern] and Astrology. For many years, he served as a member of the Myanmar Calendar Advisory Board.
Saya U Myo Myint Sein earlier suggested that the ex-rit org should organize technical sessions [if possible as part of the Reunion]. Saya has given talks at the [architecture] conferences throughout the United States [and elsewhere]. Saya earlier said that he'd like to write something for the Special Issue.
Saya U Tin Htut, along with U Tin Htway and U Tun Tin, founded BASES (Burmese American Society for Engineers and Scientists). He is a past President, but still very active with BASES and with the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe.
I met Saya U Ko Gyi at the BASES annual dinner hosted by U Tin Htway. It was nice to talk to him. Hope all the Sayas will send their bios and/or articles by e-mail to Ko Thein Aung [and cc to me].
Saya Christopher phoned me and asked about Saya U Tin Swe (Elec). Of the three Sayas he knew best, Sayagyi U Kyaw Tun (Elec) and Saya U Sein Hlaing (Elec) had passed away. He inquired the whereabouts of Saya U Ba Lwin. He thanked us for putting much effort into the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe, and said that he'll be sending a check of $200 for the general Saya Pu Zaw Pwe fund.
Saya U Kyaw Hlaing continues to teach Burmese [on demand] at the US universities which offer Burmese. During his spare time, he used to teach Burmese [language and culture] to the children and youth. His spouse [also] served Burmese gourmet food to the "Sunday school" attendees. Thadu, thadu, thadu.
Several of KMZ's classmates -- James (Jimmy) Hla Shwe, Tint Naing, Ko Ko, Min Han, Thura Thant Zin, ... --- will be coming. Ko Tint Naing took digital pictures during the BASES dinner and submitted them that very night to the ex-rit web site. He has several web sites. On one of them, he has listed photos and directions to the hotels [Embassy Suites and the nearby hotels where the majority of the people from the Southern California contingent will be staying]. Grapevine said that he managed to get discount rate for the Southern California alumni. Merci beaucoup, Monsieur Tint Naing. Arigatogozaimasu.
Ko Thet Win (Arch), web master of Disney/Go website, is the son of the multi-talented U Win Pe [also known as Mya Zin, Po Yazar, Epsilon, ..., auctioneer of the Myanmar Gems Emporium]. He also maintains a personal web site. He will be accompanied by his spouse -- famous movie actor. He had promised earlier to write an article for the ex-rit web site.
Others who will be attending include an elder brother of Saya KC, Ko Cecil Teoh, some more architects (Annette Shwe, Mie Mie Leong, U Tin Htoon, etc.), a nephew of Saya U Kyaw Tun (Chemistry) and Daw Than Than, James Wan (Mech 65), etc. I've listed Ko Aung Khin, Ko Tun Aung, Ko Khin Maung Lay in an earlier e-mail/article. ================= What's in a name? =================
Several electrical alumni earlier contacted Saya U Sein Win (retired Professor, Electrical) to ask if he could attend the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. With a busy schedule as a consultant, Saya said that he could not come.
The alumni contacted Saya Dr. San Tint (Professor, Electronics). He [finally] managed to get "leave [of absence]". If the other steps work out, he'll be coming to the Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw. That's all for now. With metta, Hla Min
